I Broke Soil
This is not a film that leaves you with a good feeling nor does the film tread a familiar path. a sinewy, unsettling psychological discomfort, saturated with a meandering dream logic. We follow the protagonist - a white old man - into an unsolvable riddle filled with archetypal nineties elements such as video games, posters and music. I Broke Soil cherishes "uselessness" and instead uses the loose flutters of thought as an occasion to design a story, as an extension or contribution of that thought. The lack of clear answers and structure can be frustrating, but the strange way the story is told reinforces how real the exchanges between humanity, the subconscious and our environment feel or appear.
