PEBMAC founded by Jochem Ruarus is the acronym for Problem Exists Between Monitor And Chair. The studio is dedicated to exploring the evolution and typology of pedagogy and fragmenting education within the arts. We do this through the un-learning development, writing, structuring and chaos, artistic-research and publishing. Which can end up in many forms such as un-practical curricula, extreme-conditions field research, eye gazing cinema or confusing conditional design. Questioning the concrete walls, power structures and ideologies and its impact.
We aim to approach education and the space of it through an understanding of it as an inherently interdisciplinary yet non-hierarchical form, making and advocating for the the classroom to function as an anti-oppression learning environment.
The studio divides his time working between Amsterdam and Berlin.
